Silver Sands is a lovely beach located on the south coast of the island. The waves and swells in this area are quite impressive making it an ideal spot of a wide variety of watersports.

During the winter months the tradewinds off the coast of Silver Sands create perfect conditions for windsurfing and Silver Sands is a world class spot for this exciting sport. Here you will find one of the two Club Mistral centres on the island.

Surf Barbados provides surfing lessons and board rentals, along with a "Surf Safari" that takes you to the best surf breaks the island has to offer!

Zed's Surfing Adventures is based right around the corner, and offers surf lessons to those new to surfing, and surf tours and packages to more experienced surfers. Or you can rent a surfboard and head out on your own.

At Silver Sands on the south coast of Barbados, the sand is blown to form dunes which is stabilised by vegetation. In the very salty sand near the sea few plants will grow, but those that do stop the movement of the windblown sand, enabling other plants to take hold. It is as a result of these plants that the dunes are built up. The sand on these dunes is less salty and plants such as the sea grape and the manchineel become rooted and grow.
